IP strategies for SMEs

The European Patent Office have recently published an insightful series of case studies analysing the IP strategies of a number of European-based SMEs. These case studies provide an overview of IP strategies of businesses in different industry sectors, which include areas such as managing patent portfolios; entering partnerships and monitoring competitors to provide examples of how IP strategies can be designed and implemented.

In other news, the European Commission have set a ‘Brexit date’ for IP rights. The 30th March 2019 will be the date at which EU registered and non-registered Trademarks and Community Designs (which are EU industrial design rights) will no longer be enforceable in the UK. Subsequent announcements are expected as the negotiations continue.
