Each month the Electronic Frontier Foundation (a pressure group dedicated to reforming the US patent system) publishes its “dumbest patent”. Vice Magazine has compiled these together to create a calendar of idiocy for 2015. The nominated patents include “method and device of interactive virtual control of sexual aids using digital computer networks”, a patent which basically seems to cover putting data onto a computer (novelty?) and, perhaps rather more controversially, a whole class of patents.

There is one thing that can be relied upon to persist throughout the years that is unfailing, constant and pervasive – human stupidity. You might think that in a field as technical and challenging as patent law there would be little sign of the phenomenon, but, rest assured, stupidity permeates everything.
