It proved to be the perfect venue for the exhilarating game the crowd was about to watch.
It was a heated match with Talbot giving it their all to get their revenge for a 5-3 defeat during the group stages earlier in the season. The CFC team covered good ground on the pitch and put on the pressure with numerous early attempts at scoring, all of which missed their goal by only a hair’s width. The first goal came just before halftime and was scored by eventual Man of the Match, Antony Aylett – an exhilarating side shot into the corner. Following halftime, Michael Spinks tried his best to make himself unpopular with Talbot and succeeded by scoring two further goals, aided by fantastic passes by the team. And so the game ended with a decisive 3-0 victory – a well-deserved win as everyone on the team had given it their all.
Throughout the game, the team was cheered on by a strong turnout from their CFC colleagues, friends and family, who’d travelled from central London to “The Valley” to support their work mates. Having tasted victory this time, the winners have promised everyone a repeat in next year’s Lloyd’s Cup. Aon and Arthur J Gallagher… bring it on.
